ALC Leveling Guide 70-80

403 Issues SHOULD BE SOLVED: After a very convoluted hunt to discover why and how this was happening - I took a rather extreme approach to squash the problem. There should be no more of this issue going forward.

ShB 5.3 UPDATED! Dwarf Beast Tribe and Ehll Tou

Recent Update Log

5.3 Updates

  • Dwarf Beast Tribe quests added in ShB tier as a notable EXP source.
  • Ehll Tou added as Custom Delivery client option.

Previous updates

  • Kai Shirr added as Custom Delivery client option in ShB tier.
  • L70 to L80 section essentially revamped: New Skills & Rotations! 5.2ish was a clusterF. Skills changed TWICE in a short span of time. All is well now!
  • L70+ Gear recommendation:  Yellow Scrip gear is now recommended, for a number of reasons (Mainly, barely need stats for 70 to 80 leveling)

Back again to level your ALC to 80 in the Shadowbringers tier? Well, let’s get right to it…

Once more back into the frying pan… into the fire of Shadowbringers Alchemist Leveling! Let’s go!

L70 to L80 DoH Beast Tribe quests: Dwarf

5.3 introduced the Dwarf Beast Tribe, which is a very welcome form of “free and easy” EXP, while getting some cool cosmetic items to boot.

Unlocking Dwarf Beast Tribe

Here’s some basics on how to unlock Dwarf Beast Tribe.

  • Location: Lakeland (9, 13)
  • Quest Name: It’s Dwarfin’ Time
  • NPC: Affable Townsdwarf
  • L70+ Disciple of the Hand

Other unlocking requirements pretty much sum up to “the blue dwarf quests in this area”. Formally, it requires “Ronitt to the Rescue”, which requires “Wright for the Job” and “Learning to Lali-Ho”, and so on. If you can’t see the quest, then knock out the blue quests around the area.

I place this Beast Tribe reminder very far up this guide not only because it’s a mid-patch addition, but also because it’s such a help to push past the dreaded “Dead Zone”. It remains a great source of EXP at any point until you that to hit L80!

Alchemist L70 to L71 – The Deadzone

The first level of any new tier is a little brutal – and hard for me to account for since everyone has different stats coming in. The deadzone is caused by having subpar gear, and how it affects your possible activities to get past it. Fixing up your gear – getting Scrip gear – should be your highest priority at L70, as it will help ALL YOUR CRAFTERS push past the deadzone, and this gear is GOOD UNTIL LEVEL 80!

Suit up - Get Scrip gear ASAP

As mentioned above. It is SUPER VALUE to get this gear as it’s useful to you up until leveling to 80, and usable by all classes. Do Custom Deliveries to get scrip!

At least for the deadzone, I calculated a need of 1630 Craftsmanship, 1513 Control and at least 365 CP.

L70 to 71 Deadzone Rotation 80 Durability

This rotation needs 365 CP – buy Handking accessories (or any cheap ones) and/or food buffs to reach that. It’s meant to accomodate all sorts of people entering the SHB tier (with likely lower CP). Feel free to upgrade this rotation if you have more stats.

Rotation Notes

As you can see, the amount of synthesis you need here is brutal – the debuff for trying L71 as L70 is huge. It’s called the deadzone for a reason.

Also, these contain the anti-poor RNG Tricks of the Trade – which prevents your Byregot from landing on poor at all times.

The rotations are somewhat long, 2-button, and not even 100% – but that’s the nature of the deadzone for you! Let’s get out of it ASAP!

TLDR: Updating your gear is key to getting out of the deadzone, and when you do – you can use this rotation to help push out of it.

Beating the Deadzone: Sources of EXP

Here we outline the practical (or hopefully practical) sources of EXP to help muscle through this tough stretch. While many of these do not require the scrip gear mentioned above (Custom Deliveries, and easier tier GC Submissions), they will certainly help with some other activities (IE Grinding, making your own levequest items).

CUSTOM DELIVERIES!!!

Custom Deliveries.

Ok, this is valuetown right here and one of the prime methods to get out of the deadzone – BUT IT RESETS WEEKLY, so choose wisely. Personally, I didn’t use this on any class above 71 until all were 71 or more. You also get large amounts of scrip to update your gear with!

5.3 update: Ehll Tou from The Firmament joins Kai Shirr from Eulmore, as both the L70+ ShB Custom Delivery clients, so they’re your best option for maximum rewards at this point. Try to use all your allowances between them if you’re leveling 70 to 80.

You have 12 deliveries a week spread between:

  • Kai Shirr in Eulmore
  • Ehll Tou in The Firmament
  • Zhloe Alpaioh and Adkiragh in Idyllshire
  • Mnaago in Rhalgr’s Reach
  • Kurenai in Ruby Sea

Note that these 12 allowances are shared between ALL DOH/DOL classes.

Daily GC Submission

From here, and into the untold ages to come, the Daily GC Submission is VALUE. It’s, on average, worth more than the usual levequest. The starred entries are too massive to even describe.

Even if you can’t make these yourselves, check the MB for deals, or buy them straight up NQ from NPC’s if you’re desperate.

To check these, click CTRL+U (default) > Next Mission Allowance.

Levequests!?

Levequests are, of course, the main method of EXP gain as always – If you upgraded your gear, and use the rotation above (IDEALLY WITH 1 HQ MATERIAL TO PUSH FOR 100%) you can pretty reliably make them yourself.

One trick is to grind on 40 Durability “ingots”, and
use the HQ’s for your 80 Durability crafts!

If you’re lazy or don’t have the gear – you’re either forced to buy from the MB or NPC’s. This feels really bad, and if you’re on a budget, this is not the way to go. Hopefully, you find some good deals!

If you CAN make stuff then the deadzone ain’t so dead after all

Grinding

Use Revised Engineering Manuals!

Can be pretty okay, honestly! You don’t need to hit HQ! Just get the best quality you can on any “ingot type” craft, for future use on levequest items or your stockpile.

In the case of Alchemist L70, you can try out Enchanted Truegold Ink and Crimson Firesand.

One trick is to grind on 40 Durability “ingots”, and
use the HQ’s for your 80 Durability crafts!

And finally, one more source of EXP worth mentioning in its own segment…

Unlock Crystarium Deliveries “Class Quests”

This is a new thing (not to be confused with custom deliveries), that acts like a shared class quest between certain classes. In the case of Alchemist, it  shares with Culinarian in the Facet of Nourishing.

UnlockingHow does it Work?

It’s a 2 quest process to unlock this.

  • 1st Quest: The Crystalline Mean (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: MSQ “The Crystarium’s Resolve (L72)”.
  • 2nd Quest: Friends of a Feather (L70) – Area: The Crystarium
  • Requires: The Crystalline Mean (the 1st quest listed above)

You can submit SIX ITEMS PER TIER PER FACET – shared between your facetmates. So try to save them up to burst through shitty tiers.

After six submissions your esteem goes up and they’re gonna ask for a new set of six items at L73, 75, and 78.

In the case of ALC 70, I’d suggest simply splitting it up between the shared classes, meaning 3 each for ALC and Culinarian, to help get out of the Dead Zone.

Alchemist L70 Levequests

I’ll put the levequest table here, but I’ll repeat it in the next segment with complete discussion (I’ll put a basic recommendation here) – since not all L70 crafters will be able to reliably make it themselves…

ALC 70 Levequests

Again, discussion for these is in the next major segment, L71.

Hopefully the Deadzone wont stress you out too much. There’s quite a few ways to push past it, but it definitely is one of the more difficult parts of leveling in a new tier, Shadowbringers to L80 is no exception.

COLLECTABLES – Especially on Alchemist!

Keep an eye out for collectables from here on out. Press CTRL+U and click on Rowena’s House of Splendors to see what’s in demand today. ALC is one of those classes that has “good” collectables (still RNG, though).

Alchemist L71 to 72

A lot goes on in this level so bear with me if it’s a bit lengthy. A majority of your setup ALL THE WAY UNTIL L80 ALC happens here, so it’s worth it. Most noteworthy are a stat-check or gear update and a new rotation that works very well until L80!

ALC L71 GEAR UPDATE

This gear update is similar to the L70 one. You need to get all the L70 Scrip armor, and as many accessories as you need to reach the CP requirements (370~).

Scrip Gear

This is merely a copy of the L70 gear update. If you didn’t update or incompletely updated your gear at L70, then you MUST do it now. Of course, if you have any gear that beats this – go for that instead.

Mainhand and Body are MANDATORY – the rest can be substituted for L71 crafted if you like (more notes in the next tab)

No Scrip for Scrip Gear?

Then simply substitute any crafted L71 gear in their place. Generally speaking not all pieces are equal – you definitely prefer scrip in some places. Some pieces have better crafted (accessories) but are largely unnecessary. Consider these only if you’re short on scrip.

TLDR: Only get and meld crafted L71 gear IF YOU HAVE NO SCRIP,
Or rather spend GIL instead of scrip.

Here’s what you should and shouldn’t consider:

ALC L71 ROTATION UPDATE: 80 DURABILITY

The L71 Mahiko San Synthesis: God’s Touch ™ – 80 Durability is a ONE BUTTON macro (so it’s thankfully short), while being ABSOLUTE TRUE 100% (baits poor procs with Tricks of the Trade) while also being BUFFLESS.

ALC L71 ROTATION UPDATE: 40 DURABILITY

The “Mahiko San Synthesis: God’s Touch ™ – 40 Durability” Shares many similarities to its 80 Durability counterpart. True 100% success, while being another One Button Macro, and also BUFFLESS. It’s a 364CP rotation – so it’s quite light still.

ALC L70 Levequest Discussion

Enchanted Truegold Ink – Is the usual PDO Leve (Great if you’re POOR, DESPERATE, or OVERCAPPED ON LEVES). They serve a purpose!

Smilodonskin Grimoire – Simply USELESS. Pure garbage since the triple uses the same exact materials – and has the option for a triple submit!? This is complete trash.

Smilodonskin Codex – Not by its own merits, but by the process of elimination this is begrudgingly the best levequest in this tier.

Smilodonskin Codex (Meh) > Enchanted Truegold Ink (PDO) >>>>> Smilodonskin Grimoire (Trash tier)

What to do in this tier?

Honestly, you don’t even need to do “this tier levequests”. What I did was grind Superior Spiritbond Potion (L72 recipe, used in leves) in advance, using revised engineering manuals.

I suppose what I would suggest for the usual person getting past this tier would be, a mix of both ways. Make inks, then submit the triple codex leve a few times – then cap it off by grinding on Superior Spiritbond Potions to 72.

L70 – 72 is the most miserable tier for ALC, so do whatever you can to get past it.

Alchemist L72 to 74

There’s a rotation upgrade at 73, which I talk about below the levequest discussion.

Grade 1 Dexterity Alkahest – Great EXP for such a simple recipe. Not bad. It’s technically a PDO leve, but gives some pretty good EXP!

Gliderskin Grimoire – Just a basic levequest. It’s not terrible, and not amazing. I struggle to think of a situation where you would go for this leve specifically.

Superior Spiritbond Potion – Pure value. This simply outshines every levequest prior to this by a quite a margin. Some people are even known to spam this to 80 (don’t do this…) It’s a triple to boot.

Superior Spiritbond Potion (Godly) >>> Grade 1 Dexterity Alkahest  (PDO) >>>>> Gliderskin Codex (Strange choice)

L73 Rotation Upgrade (40 & 80 DUR)

These rotations are TECHNICALLY optional. But they are SHORTER – saves time.  More importantly completes virtually any item 100% HQ until leveling to 80 (read notes for specifics). There’s no point to hold off upgrading rotation now… It’s also rated for higher L76 / L78 items.

Superior Spiritbond Potion is ultra cost-effective. I cannot imagine myself using any other levequest available to you.

Starch Glue – PDO leve but… strange… I would rather use the mats for the triple… If you’re PDO you’re better of with the previous tier Alkahest.

Bluespirit Codex – Pretty damn useless. I would never submit this over this tier triple. It may be more valuable than some of the previous tier leves but it’s still a way behin Superior Spiritbond Potion, and this tiers triple…

Competent Craftsman’s Syrup – This one is great. You’ll be submitting this or the previous tiers Superior Spiritbond Potion (depending on price, and how rich you are). If you can afford the mats, this levequest is damn godlike.

What to do in this tier?

Well you have two main options, both of which are great so don’t stress out.

If you can afford the mats for Competent Craftsman’s Syrup triple submits, do that. Otherwise go for the usually cheaper Superior Spiritbond Potion triples from last tier. Don’t worry – either choice is great value.

L75 unlocks a new facet quest. I just split the EXP evenly between ALC and CUL.

I have a very minor rotation update for L76 40 DUR that simply reduces it to 12 steps. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t switch, but i’ll throw it out there anyway

ALC 76 Levequest Discussion

Growth Forumla Kappa – Not bad. PDO-ish levequest. They serve a purpose.

Zonureskin Grimoire – Is weirdly low EXP given the material complexity. This is simply terrible compared to this tiers triple, and looks terrible even compared to lower tier leves.

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup – Ultra godlike godtier heavenly tier “S” mega diety level ultimate. This is the best levequest in the Shadowbringers tier for ALC so far, and is probably the best as it handily beats the L78 ones.

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup >>>> Kappa (if PDO) >> Zonureskin Grimoire (Why!?)

What to do in this tier?

Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup is godlike EXP for the effort. I don’t know what else to say. Use previous tier triples or PDO leves if you’re strapped for cash. But, if you can manage it, this tiers triple is the pinnacle of value for ALC in the Shadowbringers tier.

Again, collectables are always an option for ALC if you wanna preserve leves so keep an eye out.

ALC 78 Levequest Discussion

Tincture of Vitality – is an absolutely useless levequest. The triple levequest uses virtually the same mats! It serves no purpose at all.

Dwarven Mythril Codex – Unless you’re reading this AFTER Shadowbringers, I don’t think this leve will be competitive with the Tincture leves at all (or at least for quite some time…)

Tincture of Mind – The absolute best levequest in this tier “on average”. Cost-effective, and a triple… what more can you ask for!

Tincture of Mind >>>>>> Dwarven Mythril Codex (niche scenarios) >> Tincture of Vitality (useless)

But the previous tiers Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup seems “too good” to pass up.

What to do in this tier?

Since ALC has many viable levequests and many viable collectables, this can go any way really. I submitted a mix of many triple leves to get rid of my extra items, and capped off to 80 continuing submitting the 76 tier triple Commanding Craftsman’s Syrup. I simply couldn’t justify using any of the L78 leves…

If you find it costly, feel free to use lower tier triples or, again, especially as ALC – always be on the lookout for great/cheap collectables. Great for saving leves and gaining scrip.

L78 has your final facet quest (while leveling), and as usual I simply split it evenly between ALC and CUL.

L80+ Alchemist, What next?

Congratulations! Well, that’s it for the Shadowbringers tier. I have yet to decide if I will revive the end-game guides, lets see. But for now enjoy your L80 Alchemist and go level your other classes!!!

  1. Can rotations please be updated to reflect skills that no longer exist, as well as new ones, etc (I.e. Comfort Zone).

  2. Hello! Just a heads up: I am currently doing the Lanolin leves in Whitebrim, and the number has been reduced to 1 lanolin per delivery, making it a 3 craft triple-leve; which is basically *amazing*.

  3. I’d like to add something to help out other people who plans to grind out lvl 15-25 using leves. It’s late I know.
For level 15-25 leves, Ash Wand can be bought from the Merchant & Mender in Central Shroud, whereas the Budding Ash Wand can be bought from the same kind of NPC in East Shroud.

  4. I’m not sure where to leave this – there doesn’t seem to be any help or support section – but I can’t click to open any of the clickboxes in most (all?) of these leveling guides. I was able to a couple days ago. It’s not working for other friends I’ve asked to try, either. A little frustrating; I can’t see the macro recommendations anymore, among other things. This website has always been so great to help with leveling jobs, could someone look into fixing this?

  5. I have been following this guide and have gotten to 64 very easily but I have a small problem…
When I go to the page for 64-70 none of the drop down menus work! I don’t know if it’s just me but I checked on 3 different browsers and had a friend even try. All the other pages work just fine. Kinda bummed because I wanted to see what to get gear wise and what cross skills I’m supposed to “FIX UP” but I can’t.

Looking forward to getting on with my progession and your answer!

  6. Hello. First off, thank you so much for this guide. I have been following it to great success.

I have noticed that some of your quotation marks for the macros do not copy+paste well into FFXIV. I have to edit every single one in order to use them. I’m NA, so not sure if it’s different in the EU/JP locale? Not a big deal, but if you care, there it is. :)

    Thanks!!

      1. At least the 71 ALC macros were posted with smart punctuation, which the NA version apparently chokes on. Wasn’t hard to fix with a bit of search and replace in a text editor, but still confusing at first.

  7. I have a correction. On the alchemist level 50-60 page, there is this line:

“It’s now in Mor Dhona! Wiltaek (Revenants Toll) is your questgiver… and client!”

The NPC name is misspelled. It should be “Wiltwaek”.

  8. I know it’s early on in the class, but the materials for Roof Tiles are not all available from the Alchemy supplier. They don’t sell Straw (but you can take a quick Aethernet jaunt to the Weaver’s guild that does).

  9. Here’s a suggestion if you’re lazy like me, when you first get palace of the dead you need to spam that because it gives you HQ potions with needing to buy and it also lvls up your class for attacking so it’s a win win situation.

  10. (15-20 range) Ash Branches actually aren’t purchased from the Guild Supplier, only their logs are. But I heard something about unlocking materials…? It’s not there at-level, at least.

  11. Just wanted to throw this out there,

Lv30 Alchemist LeveQuest (Just Give Him a Serum), actually gives a little more EXP compared to the other Singles of the Lv35 Alchemist LeveQuest tier.

Just Give Him a Serum (47.8k EXP for NQ / 95.6k EXP for HQ)
Majority of Singles at Lv35 only gives roughly 41k EXP for NQ (with the exception of the Wand).

So IMO, I think it should also be in that tier considering the amount of EXP it gives and how easy the recipe is.

  12. at lvl 56 you can spam hardsilver ink collectables for cheap and fast exp, got to 60 in 2 hours and made enough blue scrips for my books

    1. Yes they should be HQ because even for class quests, if you turn in an HQ item it will give you DOUBLE the XP

  13. 53 ALC quest is HQ Enchanted Mythrite Ink (x3)
55 ALC quest is HQ Bottles of Grade 1 Intelligence Dissolvent (x3)
58 ALC quest is HQ Draconian Potion of Strength (x1)
60 ALC quest is HQ Noble Gold (x1)

  14. You might want to update the level-30-35 range that you can make Growth Formula Gamma with NPC bought materials… its just that you have to unlock them first…!
