>> Important: UNLOCK MOOGLE BEAST TRIBE! <<
Moogle Beast Tribe Quests (Daily): Help muscle past 50 to 53!

The introduction of Moogle Beast Tribe quests gives us possibly the “best” method to help our struggling crafters past the extremely difficult L50 to L53 phase.

Starting Quest: Tricks and Stones
NPC & Location: Seething Stonemason, Churning Mists (27, 34)
Prerequisite MSQ: Into the Aery
Prerequisite Sidequests: Laying the First Brick.

Why do Moogle Dailies? They’re EXTREMELY EASY, FREE, FAST, and provide A CHUNK OF EXP – especially useful for the early 3.0 levels, namely 50 to about 53 (before you get a complete set of 3.0 DoH Gear).

The EXP is gained on the class you triggered the quest with – you cannot switch class after completion and get exp on that one, so be careful.

Unlocking this can be a HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT. There’s about 2.7 billion prerequisite quests – especially painful for those who didn’t quest in Churning Mists. Good luck.

I highly suggest saving these for your lowest level crafter, or to get past “difficult tiers”. Once all of your crafters are past 53, spend them freely or on your highest level crafter!

To those who are familiar with the previous tiers Ixal quests, MOOGLE QUESTS ARE MUCH SIMPLER. There’s no combat or forced gathering involved.

Before you begin BSM 50+

  • Go to the Blacksmith guild in Limsa, and get your quest to point you to your new quest giver.
  • It’s now in Ishgard! Fremordain (Jewelled Crozier) is your questgiver… and client!
  • You get 3 Commercial Issue Crafting Manuals: Use them wisely! Read the damn tooltip.
  • Reminder: DO YOUR GC TURN-IN EVERYDAY. If you can afford it, it’s worth an arm and a leg of EXP, buy NQ if you have to!
  • Go to Ishgard and complete the quest “Inscrutable Tastes“. It unlocks the Scrip turn-in system.

Crafting Scrips, turn-ins and your Blacksmith:

So how does this all work? Basically, you craft Collectibles and hand them in for EXP, and later on, Scrips. This acts like a ‘free’ levequest! It’s infinitely repeatable – as long as you can afford to make the items. How do you craft a collectible? Using the skill Collectible Synthesis gives you a status effect wherein anything you craft will end up as a collectible.

UNLIKE NORMAL CRAFTING HQ% doesn’t matter. An items collectability is defined by its quality upon completion. So you don’t need to “HQ” everything you craft – just make sure you reach the minimum collectability! When you’re done, you’re prompted to keep the item as a collectible, or complete the synthesis normally. These items cannot be stacked, sold or traded. You may also “lower” an item from a collectible to a regular item!

Blacksmith Level 50 to 52

Leveling up your retainer (Battle class) is EXTREME value for Blacksmith, and other DoH

BSM 50 Levequest comparison:

  • Mythrite Patas: If you’re going to do a single item leve – this is it.
  • Mythrite Katzbalger: Garbage mat requirements compared to the above.
  • Mythrite Nugget:(R) Basic ‘ingot’ triple. Cheap, but difficult to HQ yourself.

What I did in this tier: Okay before you proceed let me warn you that you have a hidden weakness at level 50. I don’t know how else to explain it, at level 51 your capability to craft 3.0 recipes improves dramatically. So in this case I just synthed as many Mythrite Nuggets (and submitted my daily GC for the day – buy it if you have to or if you’re scared to fail) to reach 51. At 51 do the recommended leves above.

If you have a higher levelled ARM – use it to craft the various
‘ingots’ for your BSM!

BSM 52,53 Gear Check: Depending on how solid your DOH gear was coming into 50+, upgrading your Mainhand at L52 to Mythrite Lump Hammer, and Offhand at 53 to Mythrite File is a significant gain in stats. Just as HQ Rainbow Coatee. These three slots contain the bulk of your stats – don’t bother with the other items just yet.

Blacksmith Level 52 to 54

BSM 52 Levequest comparison:

  • Mythrite Stiletto: The best single leve in this tier.
  • Mythrite Zweihander: This one just sucks.
  • Mythrtite Culinary Knife:(R) The cheapest of the three.

What I did in this tier: Remember about the gear notes I wrote above at 52 and 53. As for the leves I was strapped for levequests during this time so I picked the triple. The stilleto isn’t so bad – Wyvern Leather and Void Glue are the only limiting factors. Whatever you do avoid Zweihander. I’ll just let you know now –

Generally speaking, in 3.0, BSM levequests range from ‘sucky’ to ‘not so sucky’, rarely did I feel happy doing them.

I wont remind you any further – you can use your higher levelled ARM if you have one, to help you craft the base materials needed for BSM synths.

Blacksmith Level 54 to 56

BSM 54 Levequest comparison:

  • Hardsilver Saw: will 99% be cheaper to craft than creasing knife
  • Titanium Creasing Knife: But check the costs anyway. It’s not a bad leve.
  • Titanium Barreled Aquebus:(R) The worst levequest in the game.

What I did in this tier: A bit of respite in this tier as you can shuffle around your mats to craft either the saw or knife. If you’re hard up and pissed off at this point you can…

Buy NQ’s off the MB or NPC’s and turn them in – that’s how crappy BSM leves can be, to drive you to such desperation.

BSM Level 56 – Scrip tier collectibles: Once you hit 56 you’ve now entered the scrip tier! Trust me on this, you’re going to need ALOT of these guys. Blacksmiths are a below average class to farm scrips with, but you should check everyday just in case you have the mats for some value submissions!

Blacksmith Level 56 to 58

BSM 56 Levequest comparison:

  • Titanium Ingot: I liked this one! The other doesn’t exist in my eyes.
  • Titanium Battleaxe: Haha, this is a joke, right?
  • Titanium Lump Hammer:(R) Make 2 FOR YOURSELF FIRST!

What I did in this tier: Okay listen up – Titanium Lump hammer may be a levequest item – but it’s also your main hand and a CLASS QUEST ITEM! Right off the bat I made one for my own use first (it will last you to level 60). The second one is for submitting the class quest. ONLY THEN would you consider making these for levequest turn-ins.

It’s your choice between the ingot and this. Ingot is harder to HQ, Lump Hammer is slightly more expensive (but faster to make).

I would like to expound on how terrible battleaxe is. In the time it takes you to craft the three ingots you need (You could have already submitted that as a leve!), you still need 2 Titanium Rivets, Wing Glue and Hallowed Chestnut Lumber – to complete that leve. “lolno”.

APPARENTLY TITANIUM NUGGET CAN APPEAR AS A COLLECTIBLE L56+! If it spawned for you, GET BSM DONE ASAP!

Blacksmith Level 58 to 60

BSM 58 Levequest comparison:

  • Adamantite Nugget: Your only choice, but it isn’t a good one.
  • Adamantite Dolabra: These are hard to craft as a fresh 60… but now??
  • Adamantite Zweihander:(R) The worst levequest in the game II.

This tier is the “one true garbage”.

What I did in this tier: Guys, this is not a joke. Doing any of these levequests will result in your insanity. Adamantite Nugget is your only choice, and even then – it is VERY DIFFICULT to craft and HQ on your own without a decent set of equipment.

You have a few options here, none of them are great…

  • Do older levequests. (I did this to some extent)
  • (What I did) Use the Commercial Issue Manual and try to safely craft as many Adamantite Nuggets (you’ll be using a ton of these anyway).
  • Check the scrip turn-ins for anything good.
  • Submit NQ that you can pick up cheap at MB or NPC’s (Desperation)
  • Do a few days worth of GC turn-ins (terrible too since it’s adamantite tier).

Whatever you choose, it’s probably gonna sacrifice either SPEED, EFFICIENCY or GIL. You won’t be happy doing any of the methods to hit 60, but at least you’re not alone. Good luck on the final push, friend.

  1. I’m so disappointed this website isn’t working anymore.. I get 403 errors on every guide and as a returning player that used to use this site religiously…. I sad now.

  2. The 68 leves aren’t correct. Knock on wood, for the molybdenum ball-pien hammer, is NOT a triple Leve quest. it’s only a single. if there is a triple here I believe it would most likely be the Fire for hire, the molybdenum rimfire. I did find the knock on wood to be faster and better since I leveled the gatherers, but it does spend more leves

  3. If anybody is having trouble with the L62 80DUR 379CP rotation because they lack the required CP, changing the second Steady Hand II to a Steady Hand saves 3 CP (in fact everyone should do that, because you hit 100% either way) and omitting it altogether saves 25 CP and only changes the Basic Touch and Byregot’s Blessing to 90%, which is still totally reliable. Doing this changes the CP requirement for the rotation to 354 from 379, which is a huge jump for low-geared crafters. Also, once you hit L63, Rapid Synthesis III with Steady Hand II should replace Careful Synthesis III in most cases (IMO). Especially if you cross-class Tricks of the Trade for the extra 20 CP ticks every once in a while, considering, once Comfort Zone falls off, there’s no reason to want to use unnecessary steps.

  4. Am I crazy or does the level 60, 40 dur rotation just not work? Let me know if I’m wrong but:
    Comfort Zone = 40
    Inner Quiet = 40
    Waste Not = 40
    Steady Hand II = 40
    Hasty Touch II = 35
    Hasty Touch II = 30
    Hasty Touch II = 25
    Hasty Touch II = 15
Hasty Touch II = 5 (i assume this was left out by accident, because there’s absolutely no reason to go all the way to 40 in this rotation as opposed to 35)
    Master’s Mend = 35
    Steady Hand II = 35
    Great Strides = 35
    Innovation = 35
    Basic Touch = 25
    Great Strides = 25
    (there’s a space here, I don’t know what for)
    Byregot’s Brow = 15
    Ingenuity II = 15
    Careful Synthesis II = 5
    Careful Synthesis II = 0
    Careful Synthesis II = ???
Again, leave a reply if I messed it up somewhere, but I’m pretty sure this just doesn’t work. Unless of course the space before Byregot’s Brow is supposed to be Master’s Mend or Waste Not or something, in which case, that makes much more sense, but requires a ton of CP to pull off. I’m sitting at 342 CP and if I use waste not there (which is the only way I’ve gotten it to work) i can’t even use Byregot’s Brow afterwards cause I’m left with 6-9 CP.

    1. Hmm i put many notes there that this rotation should be edited depending on your stats- lemme fix it up in such a way that it will “almost surely not fail”

      1. Well how good is 342 at this point for someone who’s a tiny bit behind on gear? Seems like I just end up a tiny bit off. Also, is it Waste Not that’s being used there to squeeze out the 3 CS2s?

  5. Nice guide but there is an error with your Lv60 40 DUR macros. As is it leaves you at -15/40 DUR which means you can only do two careful synthesis at the end and have to complete any further is impossible
    HT -35/40
    HT – 30/40
    HT- 25/40 W?N wears here
    HT – 15/40
    HT – 5/40
    MM – 35/40
    BT – 25/40
    Byregots – 15/40
    CSII – 5/40
    CSII – -5/40
    CSII – -15/40

    1. Ah, I forgot to put a note on this one… This one is meant to be “changed” depending if you are able to snag the progress in 2xCSII, I forgot to put that caveat. I guess the safer call is to edit the rotation to accommodate 3xCSIII instead (better for weaker crafters). The final BT (or the 5th HT) is what’s causing the error, and should be omitted for crafters that need the CSIII – I forgot to mention it!

  6. Oh Cobalt File leve… I wish I knew where you were. Alas I shall have to content my self with another leve.

  7. First off, great series of guides. They have really helped out a lot.

Wanted to point out for BSM 56+: Titanium Nugget is a potential collectible item with a starting collectability of 2500 to start. it gives 103680 exp and 10 blue scrip (starting) making it hands down the best way to level from that point on as nothing can compare to its value, or at least, nothing that I can see (since you always need nuggets for something).

  8. I’m confused. You say that using levequests at 0-15 isn’t recommended, but then you go on to tell how to use them without really addressing what to do instead. Nothing here that describes what recipes are the best “bang for the buck” so to speak, in order to power level out over 15. Am I missing something here?

    1. I doomed myself with that line didn’t I? haha. The shopping list method is the most LEVE EFFICIENT (since you don’t use any). Courier Reverse Courier might be FASTEST and most BRAINLESS (but uses a bit of leves). This honestly depends on how rich you are with leves. I will be fixing all of the DOH leveling guides up to the new standard – it just so happens BSM is one of the “not yet fixed” ones. (CHeck out weaver).

    1. Have you checked in Red Rooster Stead? The Levequest “The Unkindest Cut” (NOT FROM LIMSA) involves submitting Bronze Saw for roughly 860 EXP and 94 gil as the reward. Kindly double check if it exists or not, because I see it.

  9. I will, however, I am putting this edit and other “general” fixes to older guides when heavensward comes out to see if there are any new things to consider while leveling up.

    1. Ever thought of making a master list?
What I am saying is if someone wanted to level -everything- in one go. Much of crafting uses parts made from other jobs… so if you wanted to lv it all in one shot you could say go out, gather x amount of this this and this, craft x of this from this job, use it to craft this from this job. This job and this job make the same things, craft x from this job and y from this job (I.E. smithing and armoror can both make bars/rivits of the same kind) next lvs go gather x of this this and this etc etc etc.

It just be something I’d love to see. I maxed my gathering out first and stockpiled a buncha stuff but having a proper means to lv everything else together be nice instead of having to pause and check the market, or scan though my craft log to see what makes this item I need, or if I even know it yet, or going out and gathering even more. Just sit back and have everything and go.
