FFXIV 3.0 Relic / Anima Weapon Guide (ALL STEPS)

3.3 UPDATED Find out how to obtain and upgrade your new 3.0 relic weapon. Looks great, but will grind your soul to dust (:

Quick Navigation: [Start 170 :: 10 Dungeons 200] [Base Anima: 210] [230 Hyperconductive]
[240 : “Novus II”]

Go to: MOST RECENT UPGRADE STEP “Novus II” 240

Hey guys! So here comes the new relic quest chain. Infusing another weapon with more soul energy and the expense of our OWN soul energy. Wether you like it or not – here it is. We will detail every known step in the new relic process! Use the links above if you’ve been here before! To those curious of the new 3.0 relic names, it’s in the 210 base anima page.

Step 1: FATEs (iLevel 170 Pre-relic ‘Animated’)

Starting Quest: Soul Without Life
Rewards: 170 Animated Seraph Cane
Previous step: None (2.0 relic)
Next step: “10 Dungeon” 200

(***This step can be SKIPPED by “handing in” your ZETA 2.0 Relic.)

This step rewards you with an item level 170 “Pre-relic”, like ITEMLINKED. It’s very reminiscent of the 2.0 ATMA step, which was quite vile. In any case, this step can be summarized by saying you need to get 3 items that drop after completing FATEs, from each of the six heavensward zones.

These luminous elemental crystals drop by chance. so pray to the RNG gods. Let’s begin by listing which element drops where (ordered by level)

Reminder: You only need THREE from each of the SIX Heavenward maps (18 total)

Coerthas Western HighlandsIce
Dravanian ForelandsEarth
Sea of CloudsWind
Churning MistsLightning
Dravanian HinterlandsWater
Azys LlaFire

Of course this comes with some questions, and possible value moves –

Can I fate with any class? Yes! You can even level up other low-level classes while finding these ‘Atmas’. This is by far the best change they did in comparison to the 2.0 atma step.

Do I need to a specific weapon equipped? Nope. Since you can use any class, this would be in direct conflict.

Does the quest need to be active? I guess YES, and random fating wouldn’t drop these things if you didn’t have the quest active in your log (needs confirmation).

What participation in the FATE do I need? Gold? I need confirmation on this. ATMAS needed a single tag (Bronze up), but I DO NOT KNOW if it’s the same for this. To be safe, go for gold.

PROTIPS: Use the PF to find groups or make one yourself. It’s always better to FATE as a chunk. Also, complete and chase FATEs in a smart manner, try to finish ones with a lesser timer remaining (if you can make it). Sometimes, avoiding mega-boss FATEs is smart, simply due to the time spent. Any FATE that fails will be reset to the easiest difficulty when it spawns again, conversely, FATES which succeed repeatedly get tougher and tougher.

Step 2: 10 Dungeons (iLevel 200 Awoken pre-relic)

Starting Quest: Toughening Up
Rewards: 200 Seraph Cane Awoken
Previous step: “FATEs” 170
Next step: “Base Anima” 210

This portion is quite simple. Complete 10 dungeons and you’re done.

Dungeons in order
Snowcloak
Sastasha (Hard)
Qarn (Hard)
Keeper of the Lake
Wanderer’s Palace (Hard)
Amdapor Keep (Hard)
Dusk Vigil
Sohm Al
The Aery
The Vault

Do I have to wear a specific weapon? Yes you must wear the 170 relic AS YOU ZONE OUT. Unlike the Animus wherein you had to wear it while killing the final boss. These dungeons MUST BE COMPLETED in order. There’s not much else to say here. Again, listing down the usual questions and tips below…

Can I use any class? No, since you have to be wearing the weapon as you zone out.

Can the older dungeons be level synced? Yes! This saves us from some of the pain, at least.

PROTIP: DPS will have a harder time with this I assume, due to dungeon queue times. PF may or may not even help here, due to the fact that waiting for it to fill up might be slower than actually just queueing. Try it out, anyway. You may get a group willing to go all the way.

Ok so those first two steps weren’t so bad, right? Next step (3): Base Anima 210 – is where the TRUE grind begins. But before you worry about it, let me give you a short lived congratulations on your EZ 200 weapon.

FFXIV 3.0 Dark Knight (DRK) BiS for Heavensward

HEAVENSWARD UPDATED! DRK Best in slot guide! “I need BALLAD AND PAEON!”, DRK Esoterics buy order, melding and more!

Sadly, there isn’t any Piety on ’em! Welcome to our Dark Knight Best-in-slot gear guide! We discuss here gearing options for BOTH DPS CENTRIC DRK’s and PARRY/EHP CENTRIC DRK’s. So no matter which camp of tanking you follow, or whatever your group needs – you can see both options right here!

Heavensward Dark Knight Best-in-Slot

TANK BiS DISCLAIMER: I don’t buy into the whole ALL TANKS SHOULD DPS or ALL TANKS SHOULD HAVE MAX EHP! It all depends on your group, level & speed of progression, and personal preference. As such, I will list both options. (Related Read: Parry vs DPS)

For the sake of “interchangeable filler slots”, Chaos <-> Gordian serve as natural replacements to each other (May or may not be discussed within guide, but take that as an ‘unspoken truth’).

SINCE MELDED RIGHT SIDE IS SO STRONG FOR TANKS, tank gear should be thought as two separate entities: Leftside (armor) and right side (accessories). There’s a million ways to setup the right side, but the left is pretty much set in stone given your goals. (Purely ignoring the top accessories and using melded is A GREAT CHOICE / OPTION)

Dark Knight Accessories: Choices & Melding

Considering crafted right as BiS for tanks is 100% legit

Equip onSlot 1Slot 2Slot 3Slot 4Slot 5
Citrine Choker of SlayingVIT IVVIT IVVIT IVCRIT IIIVIT III+
Chrysolite Earrings of FendingSTR IVSTR IVSTR IVSTR IVSTR III
Chrysolite Bracelets of FendingSTR IVSTR IVSTR IVSTR IVSTR III
Chrysolite Ring of SlayingVIT IVVIT IVVIT IVFREEVIT III+
Chrysolite Ring of SlayingVIT IVVIT IVVIT IVFREEVIT III+

For the (FREE) Slot, you can put ACC, DET or SS (rings).

Here’s how it works. Melded accessories will always have the highest overall power level. However, they will never be as tanky as a Fending accessory, and never be as strong as a Slaying one. The melding strategy above makes it so you can wear crafted from A1S to A4S no problemo.

DRK BiS Discussion, Notes & Options

DPS DRK Set

Going for PURE SLAYING right side is a bit greedy, but definitely possible with a competent team. So we identify the suckiest accessories to replace with crafted.

  1. Fabled Ring of Slaying: It has accuracy… so it has that goin’ for it. Personally, I wouldn’t waste eso on these.
  2. Fabled Wristband of Slaying… SS/DET. Again, I wouldn’t buy these and just go for crafted.

The A3S legs are a KEY PART of this set, and hopefully you’ll get em! The Chaos counterpart is a poor filler – I wouldn’t waste eso on it.

Tanking / Parry DRK Set

Legs & Head – interchangeable: In the tanking list above we use Chaos Head and Chaos Leg. Keep in mind that this can be changed for Gordian Head, Gordian Leg. So if you’re lucky enough to get one of the gordian pieces early, just shoot for the gordian counterpart as well. A small but worthwhile to note value point, thay may save you over 1k ESO.

Chaos Cuirass is a MASSIVE increase in HP, Armor, MRes, Parry… basically a huge part of your defensive game. Tanks who choose to Gobtwine the chests over weapon are very common, and you should be one of them!!!

3.0 Dark Knight Esoterics Buy Order

“What should I purchase first with Esoterics for my DRK!?” Well, here you go!

DPS Dark Knight

  1. Weapon: The Deathbringer should be bought FIRST for DPS DRK’s. No question.
  2. Chaos Helm: Might as well, plus save A3 pages for Legs!
  3. Chaos Boots
  4. Fabled Belt
  5. Fabled Necklace, Ring (Any Order)
  6. EVERYTHING ELSE IS OPTIONAL, and NON-BiS
  7. Chest can be bought if you want to help your raid group. It’s quite the upgrade still.

With very few pieces needed, this set is powerful and easy to obtain.

On belt: If you have the Illuminati Gobcoat, buy it sooner than you would have.

PARRY / EHP Dark Knight

  1. Chest: Get these first and Gobtwine it if you can!
  2. Legs: Hmm.. (If you have the A3S legs – you can push this waaaaay down or optional)
  3. Weapon: You can buy this at any point during 1-3.
  4. Fabled Necklace, Ring (Any Order)
  5. EVERYTHING ELSE IS OPTIONAL, and NON-BiS

How many cross-class skills can I get as a Warrior? Any job class may only equip five (5) cross-class skills.

From what other classes does Warrior get skills from? Gladiator and Pugilist.

What are the best Warrior cross-class skills? This is discussed below.

Warrior (WAR) Cross-class skills discussion

SET IN STONE: Provoke > Internal Release > Convalescence > Awareness > (Last slot: FLEX)

Savage Blade – Useles since you have your own version.

Featherfoot, Haymaker – This duo is technically most utilized by the Warrior. Is it worth 2 slots? No… it really isn’t.

Flash – Is pretty good in 4-mans. It’s a contender for FLEX slot in SOME ENCOUNTERS ONLY.

Second Wind – Not bad. Doubles as an aggro generator! Contender for FLEX.

Convalescence – Really good, but it requires some coordination with healers (or a good sense of tanking) to maximize.

Internal Release – +Damage on Warrior… legit always.

Provoke – is technically a must-have for any encounter with a tank swap mechanic.

Mantra – While good for others to take, you have more important skills like…

Awareness – is good when now a days! A lot of encounter crit, and also fixes problems if you mess up Raw Intuition.

Ideal Warrior (WAR) Cross-class progression

  1. Marauder to 15 for: Unlocking other classes.
  2. Marauder to 30 for: WAR Requirement.
  3. Gladiator to 15 for: WAR Requirement.
  4. Monk to 8 for: Second Wind.
  5. WAR to 50 for: Maximum level.
  6. Monk to 12 for: Internal Release.
  7. Gladiator to 34 for: Awareness
  8.  Monk to 42 for: Mantra (All Cross Class Skills Obtained)

Summary

  • Warrior use skills from: Gladiator and Pugilist.
  • Best Warrior Cross-Class Skills:
Provoke > Internal Release > Convalescence > Awareness > FLEX
  • Flex slots would likely be: Second Wind, Mantra or Flash. (Featherfoot is okay for 4’s)

FFXIV Alexander (Normal): quick strategy guide

A quick and dirty guide detailing the simple strategies needed for Alexander Normal.

Hey guys! Here’s a quick little guide describing what you need to do in Alexander Normal. Each section will describe one boss, instead of one per page. Their difficulty isn’t that high, and having it all in one place is less of a hassle likely.

The first trash pile Faust – just burn it and have your OT pick up the adds and run around.

The Oppressor (Alexander Turn 1): Fist of the Father

  • ALARUM periodically spawn. Killing them leaves a field on the ground which minifies you if stepped on.
  • LASERS FROM THE SKY signify a huge missle coming.
  • Kill and leave the field on the laser target: minifying the missle (lol)
  • Avoiding the fly-up AoE: run furthest from its blast radius (remember ultima hm?)

Oppressor 0.5 and original must die within 30(?)s of each other, else wipe.

‘Robot Gauntlet’ (Alexander Turn 2): Cuff of the Father

I honestly have no idea of the specifics in this fight. It’s easily doable in 1 pull, although making it faster is the point of doing this fight properly.

  • At least 1 guy should ride a robot. This robot rider has a few responsibilities.
  • Pull bombs away from raid using your pulling skill. Otherwise, raid simply moves away.
  • Riders can apply a VULN UP to mobs, which is mega value. Maxes out at 5 stacks on a mob.

ROBOT SKILLS

(1) Man… I don’t know what exactly this does. Doesn’t seem too good.
(2) An AoE stun that’s pretty good at mitigating damage.
(3) Applies Vuln Up on target. Mega value
(4) Pull. Please, only use this on bombs *wink*

RIDER SETUP
Alot of different setups work, the safest being 1 DPS riding. When his energy level goes low – use the other machine.

Adds? Kill the special looking guys before the chumps, or even spider-tanks. Boomtypes and Jagds kick ass.

Living Liquid (Alexander Turn Turn 3): Arm of the Father

This guy has 3 forms which he cycles through for most of the fight.

“Human” form

  • Nothing I remember specifically – just some fancy AoE’s.

Hand form

  • During the “one chunky hand” both tanks should stay in front to share the cleave (Kaliya).
  • Once they split, just burn them. Use some defensive as they stack a resist down debuff over time.
  • Wash Away is a pushback – just get close to the center, or furthers from an edge.

Tornado form

  • Kill adds… nothing too notable.

TETHERS? We didn’t really try many things to cancel it. You get stunned, but otherwise inconsequential if done incorrectly. Feel free to comment. They were easy enough to ignore.

At a low health percentage – the final phase begins. It’s signaled by Cascade, a basic AoE damage skill. Nothing noticeably new here. I’ll check it out again tomorrow.

The Manipulator (Alexander Turn 4): Burden of the Father

Choose and kill one leg to kill first. There’s no value in spreading damage as they heal per phase. DPS the manipulator when it comes out.

Deez ballz

  • Blue sign above head signifies where the balls will float towards.
  • 2 sets of 3 balls spawn from the outside travelling towards the point. Does semi-heavy damage, heal through it or cycle party.

Getting sucked in

  • a simple mini-dps check. Kill the add and you escape. Nothin’ else to it.

Healer debuffs

  • Boss casts a red and blue hammer debuff. These two afflicted people cannot touch, else they die.
  • It can spread to new members who were previously unaffected.
  • Obviously, stay away from them at this time.

Tethers (laser)

  • Avoid having one guy eat more than 1. Simply block the line. Best suggestion here is

Again, sorry if I couldn’t write a novel about these ‘turns’. They’re quite intuitive, and fun. Don’t expect something too difficult but this little write up will help you out in the days to come.

FFXIV Gathering Rotation (Scrip farming & Collectibles)

How to get deez damn collectibles! If you’re short on collectability 0 find out some basic appraisal rotations here!

Hello guys, a preliminary guide here. Basically I’ll be listing down the rotations I used WHILE LEVELING UP. It’s no use discussing the “real” end-game collectability gathering rotations since we have no idea what numbers we’re reaching for, and how much GP we will actually have. (Yes I know there’s a current BiS… but how long will that last? Will keep an eye out for the recipe unlocks come Alexander). I personally had more than 600 GP, but it’s very unrealistic to make a rotation for LEVELING UP with 650+ GP, since not everyone had a pimped out Foragers Set.

TLDR: Gathering rotations for scrip farming & Collectibles!!!

Navigation:
End-game Gathering Rotations | Leveling up Rotations

Red scrip (470 collectability) Rotation (variable collects)

Thanks to my FCmate Tiffany Faye for this! This rotation can get at least 2, and up to 4!!!! 470 collectible items! Here’s the basic rotation

  • Reveal with a hit!
  • Discerning Eye
  • Impulsive Appraisal
  • IF PROC, Single Mind. NO PROC? Discerning Eye
  • Impulsive Appraisal
  • IF PROC, Single Mind, NO PROC? Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal

The above rotation seems damn good for me! While it requires brainpower, the eventual time saved is definitely something. I did not note the min perception needed but please mention your results.

End-Game Gathering Rotations (For now)

I’ll just copy the “1 collect” rotation from below. Since this is as good as it gets for 1 Collect @ 600 GP! Yes I do realize you can go much higher. But that’s for the minute few that have the 700++ GP for it. I’ll post those once I know more of what we need to reach, and how much GP people have on average.

Maximum Appraisal Potency for 600 GP 1 Collect

  • Reveal with a hit!
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Utmost Caution
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Utmost Caution
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect

!!VERY IMPORTANT!! >400 Appraisal Potency 3 Collect

at 570~ Perception you can easily 3 gather the high grade scrip unspoileds. I use this rotation to do so:

  • Reveal with a hit!
  • Single Mind
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect
  • Collect
  • Collect

Gathering Rotations used WHILE Leveling (Based on 600 GP)

If you have extra GP, use a Field Mastery. Or try something else. I personally didn’t see the need more than 600 GP in the road to 60~. If you’re a newer player, strive to get 600 GP somehow. Use food, cheaply meld gear… just find a way! These rotations DO NOT USE SINGLE MIND (For low level friendliness), but you’ll be more experienced by then anyway. So these rotations are really there to help those who are a little more confused.

These four basic rotations will help you gather almost any collectible. If you fail with the 1 collect – you’re undergeared.

The goal is you want AS MANY ITEMS as you can with the MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE COLLECTABILITY. So when you’re trying something new – go for the 1 collect. Go for more collects if you feel you can do it!

4 Collect, 250 Appraisal potency:

  • Toil of the Pioneer
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect
  • Collect
  • Collect
  • Collect

(Macro possible?) If you know of a 4 collect rotation with higher than 250 appraisal potency AT 600 GP, please let me know!

3 Collect, 350 Appraisal potency:

  • Toil of the Pioneer
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect
  • Collect
  • Collect

(Macro possible?) If you know of a 3 collect rotation with higher than 350 appraisal potency AT 600 GP, please let me know!

2 Collect, 450 Appraisal potency:

  • Reveal with a hit!
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect
  • Collect

Alternatively: Toil, Deep, Method x4, Collect x2 (400 potency, but executes a lot faster!)

(Macro possible?) If you know of a 2 collect rotation with higher than 450 appraisal potency AT 600 GP, please let me know!

1 Collect  Appraisal potency:

  • Reveal with a hit!
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Discerning Eye
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Utmost Caution
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Utmost Caution
  • Methodical Appraisal
  • Collect

(Macro possible?) If you know of a 2 collect rotation with higher than 500 appraisal potency AT 600 GP, please let me know!

In any case I’m excited for this whole new dimension in gathering! Good luck farming scrips!

Heavensward Dungeons & Trials (Story) Quick Guides

A quick guide about all 3.0 dungeons and trials (storyline)

“If they do not know, teach them.” – Mahiko ‘Mister PUG’ San.

I don’t know what else to say about this page. Since I don’t feel storyline dungeons and trials need a full guide page each, here’s a compilation of all storyline dungeons and trials, with any notes to beat them. ***Forgive me if I use humor***, it’s to keep me sane during this hectic time.

This guide DOES NOT INCLUDE 60+ dungeons and EX primals (Stops at Aetherochemical RF)

Heavensward: Dungeons & Trials
Dusk Vigil | Sohm Al | The Aery | The Vault | The Great Gubal Library
Ravana, Thok ast Thok (Hard) | Bismarck, Limitless Blue (Hard)

Dusk Vigil boss strategy

Dusk Vigil itself has no notable trash mob or map mechanics.

Dusk Vigil boss 1: Elephant

  • Isolate targeted guy. If its you, GTFO from your team. If its your friend, abandon him.
  • He will get wombo combo. It’s fine.

Dusk Vigil boss 2: Ghost

  • He has many ghostly friends.
  • More friends from the beyond.
  • Kill them all, again. Twice.

Dusk Vigil boss 3: Bird

  • He’s casting tornado? Hide behind rocks. You don’t stay in the open in an IRL tornado, do you?

Sohm Al boss strategy

Sohm Al boss 1: Plant

  • Memories of T6… Avoid AoE after eat.
  • Hornet spawn. I assume it’s good to kill. We burned lel.

Sohm Al boss 2: Dino

  • Lookin at you? GTFO.
  • Lots of single spike damage. Keep party healthy.

Sohm Al boss 3: Dragon

  • Marker on top of you? It’s a meteor.
  • Land these on the OUTERMOST EDGE POSSIBLE.
  • Once the marker fades -> move back towards center.

Ravana (Hard) Thok ast Thok strategy

  • Butterfly kill. Fast.
  • Avoid knockback by having an intact wall behind you.
    • That’s 99% of the fight right there.

The Aery Boss Strategy

The Aery boss 1: Skinny Dragon

  • Tether to poles lel.
  • AoE 1: Safe spot is ring inside.
  • AoE 2: Melee proximity knockback.
  • AoE 3: targetted bolts.

The Aery boss 2: Medium Dragon

  • Poison clouds spawn.
  • Mustard Gas eats Clouds.
  • I cant tell you exactly what happens here. I assume killing adds is good. We burned.

The Aery boss 3: Fat Dragon

  • Lookin at you? Move a bit. Leaves fireball.
  • Fireball rush soon after.
  • Free imprisoned friends (Don’t tunnel lel)
  • Keep DRG alive (The NPC, not your bad teammate).
  • Kill add before massacre, stand in shield.

The Vault Boss Strategy

All bosses have random AoE damage and a single spike damage skill. Just keep yer damn party healthy.

The Vault boss 1:  Sword Guy

  • Lots of fancy abilities.
  • Balls explode. lel.

The Vault boss 2: Axe guy

  • Colorful AoE. Do not stand
  • Knockback? Make sure youre NOT behind a ball.

The Vault boss 2: Robot Griest

  • Avoid marching robot (there’s spaces in between)
  • Sickness shall be purged, AoE heals.
  • Kill fireballs asap, they dont have aggro.
  • Avoid firelike “plumes”.
  • Break tethers by spreading apart from friend.

Bismarck (Hard) Limitless Blue strategy

  • Do not fall. (Tornado lel)
  • Shield in center irrelevant if your DPS has a few braincells.
  • Use harpoons -> MUST BE STANDING ON WHALE to DPS #WhalerightsPETA
  • Party takes damage while on whale, AoE heals.
  • Separate adds from each other.

The Great Gubal Library Boss Strategy

Library boss 1: Demon Wall II

  • Avoid the lane AoE.. gives slow n heavy. Demon Wall AK memory.
  • He closes! GO TO THE OTHER SIDE DAMNIT.
  • Ice floor? one press of movement makes you slide.
    • Remove little girl subligar.
    • Wear big girl subligar.
    • Deal with it.

Library boss 2: Bull

  • Fat line AoE? MOVE TOWARD HIM, FOOL!
  • Kill books.
  • Bring tether to boss.

Library boss 3: Refrigerator

  • Step on pink ‘summoning point’ to prevent adds.
    • ALL minipoints must be stood on to prevent adds in that circle.
    • comes in minipoints of 1’s, 2’s then 3’s.

Sorry for the light bordering stupid tone used in this guide. Since story dungeons are pretty damn intuitive, these will make your life a little bit easier.

FFXIV Heavensward 3.0 Information!

All YOU need to know about Heavenward HERE! The first expansion of FFXIV: Come see what ‘3.0’ has to offer!

Hi guys! Get HYPED for HEAVENSWARD, the first official expansion of FFXIV! Heavensward (or FFXIV 3.0 Patch) has a veritable CHUNK of content. Let’s see what’s goin on in Heavensward! Forgive me for the long load time, there’s a chunky amount of info and images here! (will be constantly updated until launch)

Heavensward (FFXIV 3.0)

Trailer & Basic Info | Level 60 | New Areas |
New Jobs | New Race | Airships & Flying Mounts |
| Trials: Alexander, primals | DoH & DoL | Useful Resources

Official Heavensward Trailers(s)

Heavensward: Basic Information

FFXIV Patch 3.0 “Heavensward” will be released in June 23 2015.
If you pre-ordered Heavensward, you will be able to play in Heavensward Early Access: June 19 2015
Level cap raised to 60. Meaning new skills and traits for all classes and jobs
Being an expsansion pack, it must be purchased. Where to buy Heavensward?

Pre Order Heavensward! – NA Version (compatible with NA accounts)

You can test how you run Heavensward with the: Heavensward Benchmark Tool.

Level Cap Raised to 60! And everything that goes with it!

FFXIV’s level cap is raised to 60 from 50. What does this mean for us?

  • New gear (as seen here in this 3.0 gear preview)
  • New skills and traits! and cross-class skills too!
  • A new RELIC WEAPON! (yey? ugh?)
    • Yoshida mentions that our 2.0 relic will be relevant (at least in the early phase I speculate)

If you’re late to the party, or worrying to much about gearing for 3.0 – don’t sweat it. Gear obtained in 2.5+ will likely be of no real use come 3.0! ((Back to Top))

Massive New areas, and all things that entail!

So with the level cap increased, that means we will be having new areas to come along with it! This means a lot more than you might first think:

  • Specifically mentioned “Exploration on the scale of launch” meaning HUGE new areas!
  • New FATES, enemies, levequests, hunting logs, side quests…
  • Multiple new dungeons (more than 4 estimated)

The Foundation | The Pillars

heavensward new areas the foundation the pillars

Dravinian Forelands | Dravinian Hinterlands

heavensward ffxiv new areas dravinian forelands dravinian hinterlands

Coerthas Western Highlands

ffxiv heavensward new areas coerthas western highlands

The Churning Mists | The Sea of Clouds

heavensward ffxiv new areas the churning mists the sea of clouds

And yes, some of those picstures do indeed have FLYING MOUNTS. These areas can be seen thru video @ Heavensward: Tour of the North. Again they say the new areas will be MASSIVE! And judging from these screens and vid, they look great. ((Back to Top))

3 New jobs in Heavensward

heavensward new classes dark knight astrologer machinist ffxiv

Dark Knight – Tank class that uses a 2-handed greatsword, supposedly does magical damage.
Vids & other previews:

Astrologer – Healer that uses a ‘celestial deck’, not much is known about this class but they seem awesome.
Vids & other previews:

Machinist – Ranged DPS that has little machine summons.
Vids & other previews:

Supposedly you only need level 30 of any base class to unlock these. My guess is they start at level 50 (purely speculation on the latter). ((Back to Top))

New race: The Au Ra

ffxiv heavensward new race au ra preview

The Au Ra are horned humanoids that we can assume have some relation to dragons (purely speculation). As I learn more about the lore about these guys, I’ll update! Please comment if you know anything. ((Back to Top))

Free Company Airships

Airships can now be built and used by Free Companies! What does this mean? Well the team has a bunch of stuff planned for Airships in 3.0, but not all of it might be implemented ASAP. Here are some of the features regarding FC(personal?) Airships:

  • Airships are built and or improved via Free Company Crafting. (Yeahp)
  • Each FC may own up to four Airships (Each consisting of 4 parts that make up its visual design and function)
  • On release Airships can be sent on ‘ventures’ to explore the vast Sky Islands. They increase in rank as you do this.
  • Airships can bring back rare items from these ventures.
  • In a later update: players may join these ‘air raids’ to find various islands with random properties.
    • Islands containing ‘Notorious monsters’
    • Islands containing rare gathering nodes
    • and, quoting SE, “We have a lot of ideas for these”.

Flying mounts are also coming if in case you missed that by now, haha. Aside from personal travel, not much else is known for their uses. ((Back to Top))

New Raid: Alexander! New (and Old?) Primals!

Primals in Heavensward

heavensward ffxiv new primals ravana bismarck

Many Primals will be part of the 3.0 storyline, and our trials. Older players would recognize Bismarck. An all new primal making it’s debut in FFXIV is also coming: Ravana. Of course, what are primals without BEAST TRIBES? Of course, 2 new beast tribes will be making their debut here in Heavensward as well. The Gnath and the Vanu Vanu.

ffxiv heavensward new beast tribes gnath vanu vanu

While they say Beastman quests might not be out for 3.0 straight away, they will definitely show up sooner or later. Of course, 3.0’s Primals and Beastmen are not limited by the two above, and we will likely see many old faces. ((Back to Top))

Alexander: Heavensward Raid

ffxiv heavensward alexander raid

Much like the Binding Coils of Bahamut, we assume 3.0’s entirety of raiding will take place in and around Alexander. Older players will recognize Alexander as a “primal”. He’s most known for his recent appearance in FFXIII series as the ‘summon’ of Hope Estheim. His elemental affinity in most FF games is Holy – and for the old school guys – would remember his epic battle versus Bahamut in FF9. His appearance in every FF aside from 13 is that of a FULL SIZED CASTLE.

3.0 will be the first patch wherein raiding is split into EASY and HARD mode. Easy mode is meant for more casual players to traverse through coil, while Hard Mode will yield the highest item level, and will be the main focus of progression raiding. How the loot/lockout/unlocking of these modes is still a mystery to us.

Well, what exactly his significance is in 3.0 is yet to be known, but surely I’ll be spending a lot of time in there. While many hardcore raiders like me are left with a ton of unanswered questions about progression, we are definitely happy nonetheless! ((Back to Top))

Changes in Crafting / Gathering?

Crafting in Heavensward

Crafting is getting new recipes, obviously. Mentioned above, there will be “company crafting” which caters to Airships and Housing Items. They said that houses can now be “Glamoured”. In any case the biggest news in crafting will be the introduction of specializations. Specializations will make it such that no one guy can craft everything.

Oh, and crafters will be getting a brand new “AF” look, check out how DoH AF looks like in 3.0.

Gathering in Heavensward

Of course, new nodes will be appearing in 3.0+, but aside from that there seems to be no news regarding any major changes to gathering. If anything at least (like crafters) Gatherers get a brand new AF look in Heavensward.

I’m a a fan of crafting and hope they really expand on it. Gathering on the other hand…. well I hope they have some great plans for it come 3.0 :)

New player? Need help? Old player, need advice?

For new players: I specifically created a leveling up guide that will serve your needs till the foreseeable future: Leveling general guide. I would suggest any vet to read this too, you might learn something.

For old players: You can check out my ever-growing compilation of ways to prepare for Heavensward. Newer players should also check this out just in case.

FFXIV Heavensward Preparation: What to do?

How to prepare your character before 3.0 hits so you can come bursting out of the gates! Powerlevel and get ahead of the mass!

If you’re asking yourself “What can I do to prepare my character for Heavensward?” you’ve come to the right place. Here, we discuss what you can to BEFORE 3.0 hits so you can gain a slight, but meaningful advantage.

Feel free to comment/suggest more ideas for Heavensward preparation!

General Preparation (All character types~)

Finish your STORY QUEST: I’ll mention this again near the end of the guide – but this is pretty damn important! Make sure you’ve completed the VERY LAST STORY QUEST in 2.x questline.

Rested EXP: MAX OUT your rested EXP, as this will help you out immensely. AFAIK 72 hours in a sanctuary is the maximum (Anyone else know the exact amount?)

Prepare Food: We’re not really after the stats, so don’t worry about not having a stack of Flint Caviar, haha. The 3% EXP Bonus is what you’re after.

  • Gathering food for gatherers (perception isn’t important when leveling up)
  • CP/Craftsmanship food for crafters (Basic stuff, control is so-so leveling up)

Heat of Battle I / II: I’m talking about the Free Company Actions – A flat bonus to EXP gained from killing enemies. This USED TO STACK, although I/we haven’t done this in a while. Remind your FC leader/officers to buy a few of these.

99 Gyashl Greens: Take your chocobo out of the stable and stock up on Gyashl Greens, self-explanatory. Leveling up with a choco sure beats leveling up without one.

Find a group to play with: Goes without saying. Doing dungeons and other things without a group sucks compared to with.

Stocking up on Currency: We cannot know truly how useful they will be come 3.0, but might as well if you have nothing else to do…

  • Gil: of course, never a bad thing. Used for crafted gear, materia and other things.
  • Allied Seals: from hunting – you never know if it will be relevent!
  • GC Seals: surely will be relevant… cap it out before 3.0 comes!
  • Ventures: never a bad thing to stock up on. Remember, these guys will level up, too!

Disciple of War / Magic

For the love of god, AGAIN, please check that you’ve completed your story quest, first and foremost. Under your Quest Log > Complete > Main Scenario Quest > TBA should be the last entry.

10 Maximum Completed Levequests: You can get a chunky boost of EXP by completing a total of 10 relevant Levequests for DoW/DoM classes.

  • 4 Levequests from St. Coinachs Find (Battlecraft)
  • 6 GC Levequests from St. Coinachs Find
    • 2 From each GC (Maelstrom, Adder, Flames): You can do them even if you’re not part of that GC.

Note that level 40 Leves incur a penalty (Bluefog/Whitebrim), so I don’t recommend these. You also have a max of 16 active leves between all types. If you have no plans of leveling a crafter or gatherer, by all means repeat the same process in Whitebrim.

6 Maximum Beastman Quests: Complete any (preferably max reputation) Beastman Quest from any NON-IXAL Beast Tribe to get another 6 quests of bonus EXP. You can also do the highest 3 and second-highest 3 from the same tribe so you dont have to travel around. Note that you can only have a maximum of 6 Beast Tribe quests active.

Any random quest you have unfinished: Impractical, but if you have some high level quests lying around submit them before 3.0

Disciple of Hand

6 Maximum Completed Levequests: There are a total of 6 total relevant leves you can pre-complete to gain EXP in 3.0 – 3 from your crafter Hometown, 3 from local levemete (Mor Dhona).

  • From your crafters hometown: 1 Single-submits, 1 Courier, 1 Triple.
  • From St. Coinachs find: 2 Single-submits, 1 Triple.

Items needed for these leves: 4 from single/courier and 18 from repeatables,

What’s my crafters ‘hometown’? ALC, GSM, WVR: Ul’dah. CRP,LTW: Gridania. ARM, BSM, CUL: Limsa.

6 Maximum Beastman (IXAL ONLY) Quests: Complete any (preferably max reputation) IXAL quest to get another 3-6 quests of bonus EXP. Naturally, take the 3 highest rep quest first, then go downwards.  Note that you can only have a maximum of 6 Beast Tribe quests active.

GC Supply Missions: The moment you login, craft/buy the required items for the GC submission. This is a free leve, and if its a star-item, submitting HQ will chunk your EXP up a huge amount.

Disciple of Land

4 Maximum Completed Levequests: A decent chunk of EXP can be gained by doing this, make sure you have at least 1 of each “evaluation” levequest (since they give the highest exp).

  • 4 Levequests from St. Coinachs Find (Fieldcraft)

A decent gear set: While BiS is something most hard-core gatherers have, newer players might not have the time or gil to build this up. Remember, when leveling Gathering is far more important that Perception. So just buying i55 greens and capping Gathering is a good idea if you’re short on gil.

GC Provisioning Missions: The very second you login, farm/buy the required materials for the GC submission. This is a free leve, and if its a star-item, submitting HQ will chunk your EXP up a huge amount.

Spreading it between all classes?

So all these preparations have a combined limitation: 16 total active levequests & 6 total active beastmen quests. Here’s what I’ll be doing:

  • 4 Battlecraft Leves & 6 GC Leves completed on Main Character.
  • 6 Leves for Goldsmith
  • 6 Beastmen Quests for Goldsmith

There’s a bunch of ways to squeeze value here… for example:

  • 2x Triples & Courier for CRAFTER 1.
  • 2x Triples & Courier for CRAFTER 2.
  • 2x Evaluation for Miner.
  • 2x Evaluation for Botanist.
  • 2x Triples for Fisher.
  • 6x Leves (GC?) for Main Combat Class.
  • 6x Ixal quests split between 2 Crafters

In the end, it all depends on what you want to get up first. Since I’ll be raiding ASAP when 3.0 hits, I will be spending a lot of these resourced on my White Mage.

What to do before Heavensward?

I guess this is part of Heavensward preparation as well.. here are some things you might think about

Cross-class skill classes to 50: If you’re really bored, I suggest leveling up your base-classes to 50 – Why? For example, you main a BLM (50), so you got your ACN to 34 for Eye for an Eye, and Archer to 34 for Quelling Strikes. What if Heavensward releases a level 50+ cross-class skill from Archer or Arcanist? This idea dawned on me quite some time ago, so I decided to level up my mains cross-class classes to 50 (WHM: ACN, THM). You better do the same – it’s better to be safe than sorry. (DONT LET THIS BE SOMETHING YOU REGRET)

Level up some gathering? A luxury for most content… I mean, as of right now you aren’t missing much. This is a brainless source of gil for anyone who bothers themselves with it. Gathering classes are insanely easy to level up with rested EXP. (Related resources: Mining leveling, Botany leveling, Fishing leveling) It’s always better to HAVE the option to gather, rather than rely on others.

Level up some crafting? Again, another luxury, but if you’re out of things to do, might as well start! Max DoH classes might seem troublesome, but the ability to repair your own gear in duty is cool. And for most people, you’ll be able to make a constant stream of gil from any crafting endeavor. I’ve never been sad to be a Builder of the Realm since 2.0, and I think everyone should work up to it. Crafting is fun!

Well, good luck preparing for Heavensward! To be honest, these are the ones I thought up of on the top of my head. Again, the most important part of this whole document may just be the bit about cross-class skills. If you have suggestions PLEASE COMMENT!

Determining the “best” starting race for Physical and Magical classes.

If you’re somewhat unsure of what exact advanced job you want to be, but want to generally chase either the physical or magical stats, this chart can help you choose your race.

See also: FFXIV A Realm Reborn Stats & Attributes Guide (Opens in new Tab)

Here we can make a few assumptions.

Highest overall physical racial stats: Hyur Highlanders (65). Followed by Sea Wolves tied with Seekers (63). Most STR based physical DPS or Offensive Tanks will want either of these races.

Highest overall magical racial stats: Lalafell Dunefolk (66). Followed by Keepers (64), then Hellsguard and Plainsfolk (62) tied at third. Any person who wants to go down the magical DPS or Healer route, these are the most viable races.

The safest most versatile picks with the least variance (No stat with +3/-3) are Midlanders (60-60), Duskwights (59-61), followed by Plainsfolk and Hellsguard (58-62). These are the best choices if you feel you need a mix of both PHYS and MAG stats. If you’re not sure which class you will main, these make a good choice.

Wildwood is the safest Archer/Bard/Machinist pick (Dex+3), followed by Seekers and Plainsfolk (Dex+2)

Highest Single Stat (base racial stats)

If you’re chasing a single stat, here’s a small rundown of which race offers the HIGHEST of any given stat, and which classes would most benefit from it (main stat).

MAIN STAT WANTED: Race with highest stat (Suggested classes > and Jobs)

STR: Hyur Highlander (Lancer Dragoon) (Pugilist Monk) (Offensive Tanks)
DEX: Elezen Wildwood (Archer Bard) (Rogue > Ninja) (Machinist)
VIT: Roegadyn Sea Wolves (Gladiator Paladin) (Marauder > Warrior) (Dark Knight) (Defensive Tanks)
INT: Elezen Duskwight (Thaumaturge >Black Mage) (Summoner)
MND: Miqot’e Keeper of the Moon (Conjurer White Mage) (Arcanists Scholars)
PIE: Lalafell Dunefolk (Arcanists Scholars) (Conjurer White Mage)

Maximizing Two Stats

So if you’re dead set on a MAIN class, or a certain way you want to build your character, knowing which class gives the highest of two combined stats can be huge. Here’s a table, followed by some information to help you choose. ENTRIES AFTER INT+PIE COLUMN ARE PROBABLY IRRELEVANT.

VIT is arguably the most important secondary stats for most classes. Each class has a main stat which improves their potency. VIT increases our defense which can be very important for raiding. Only very few classes can benefit from a third stat. Third stat usefulness is very rare and is mainly seen in healers (MND, PIE, VIT). Black Mages PIE (which is VERY SPECIFIC, and not all races need the adjustment). And lastly Tank DEX (Small but existent bonus).

Do racial stats even matter in FFXIV?

Very little. Some people will blatantly tell you “NO, THEY DON’T MATTER AT ALL!”, while I understand the sentiment, the truth still remains that there IS a difference no matter how TINY it is. These stats matter very little in the end-game but will not stop min-maxers or hardcore raiders. If you consider yourself part of this pile then here’s a few pointers:

Tank and Melee DPS Clear cut cases:
STR+VIT: Highlander tied with Sea Wolves. Good for any melee DPS or tank.
DEX+VIT: Highlander tied with Seeker. Good for Bards, Machinist and Ninja.

Caster Special cases:
INT+VIT: Duskwight. HOWEVER with low PIE which makes for poor BLM’s! Best for SMN’s! Also, caster Magic Resist negates the need for much VIT.
Black Mage: Dunefolk (BLACK MAGES HAVE A “MINIMUM PIETY”, watch out for low piety races!)
Summoner: Duskwight

Healer Special cases:
Healers (MND > Pie or Vit): Ah, a strange case. First of all caster Magic Resist negates the need for much VIT… so…
Good healer choices: Au Ra Raen make great balanced healers! Followed by…
—–> Dunefolk, Seeker, Hellsguard, Midlander…. Elezen make terrible healers…

MND+PIE: Keepers tied with Dunefolk. Overall good choice for healers. But these classes have the worst VIT of ALL RACES. However, caster Magic Resist negates the need for much VIT.

What do these stats do?

All information currently known about stats can be found here: FFXIV A Realm Reborn Stats & Attributes Guide. (Opens in new Tab)

Key points to remember:

  • The total stats of each race and subrace is equal at 120.
  • Character customization can pretty erase all cosmetic distinction between subraces. Choose whatever you want!
  • All races have a subrace which is more suited towards “Physical” classes, and a subrace more suited towards “Magical” classes.
  • Ultimately, as long as you chose appropriately and build properly, the small differences in starting stats accounts for much less than a 0.5% difference end-game.

It’s highly likely you checked this page out to help you on what class you’re going to choose. For your convenience we’re going to link those for you.
Physical: Archer (Bard) | Gladiator (Paladin) | Lancer (Dragoon) | Marauder  (Warrior) | Pugilist (Monk)
Magical: Arcanist (Scholars) (Summoners) | Conjurer (White Mage) | Thaumaturge (Black Mage)
